How did you find out that you won the role?
I had three meetings with Alan Ball. [After the last one], I got a call from my agent and manager. And whenever you get a call from your agent and manager, you have a pretty good idea that something good is about to happen.

What was your reaction when they told you?
I’m not afraid to admit that I started crying. I was just so excited. It’s a dream come true. When I was a little kid, the nun at my elementary school said if you pray for something hard enough, it’ll happen. And I would pray every day with all of my heart that God would turn me into a werewolf. And when it didn’t happen, I kind of thought, “You know what? Maybe this stuff doesn’t work. Maybe I’m getting gypped.” So here it is 25 years later and my prayers got answered and I’m going to be a werewolf.

Alexandra Daddario
A lead role in a fantasy blockbuster has certainly proved an effective launching pad for starlets lately (see Kristen Stewart in “Twilight” and Emma Watson in the Harry Potter series). That’s good news for up-and-comer Alexandra Daddario, who appears in the big-budget film “Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief,” which hits theaters in February.

Based on a best-selling book series by Rick Riordan about a boy who discovers he is a descendant of Greek gods, “Percy” stars Hollywood heavies including Uma Thurman, Rosario Dawson, Pierce Brosnan, Catherine Keener and Steve Coogan. (Seventeen-year-old newcomer Logan Lerman plays the flick’s title role.) “Greek gods are so human in so many ways — they love and they hate and they get jealous — and that’s what makes the stories about them so exciting,” explains the actress.

At 23, Daddario hasn’t exactly been pounding the pavement for too long. The New York City native began acting in commercials in elementary school before landing steadier work on “All My Children” at 16. (She transferred from tony Upper East Side all-girls’ school Brearley to the Professional Children’s School to focus on the business full time.) Daddario also appears as Kate in “White Collar,” USA Network’s new crime caper series, which returns in January.

Off screen, the actress is adjusting to life in Los Angeles, where she just relocated, and is enjoying some of the new tricks she picked up on the set of “Percy,” like archery and fencing. “Though I don’t know if I could get into an actual sword fight if I had the chance,” she admits.

NEW YORK – Comedy Central won't be renewing "The Jeff Dunham Show" for a second season.

The show, featuring comedian Jeff Dunham and his repertoire of puppets, attracted plenty of attention, both positive and negative. Its debut drew 5.3 million viewers, a season premiere record for Comedy Central. But all most of the reviews were terrible, and ratings dwindled during the season.

Comedy Central spokesman Steve Albani says the network will continue "to be in business with Jeff in a big way," including a live tour, standup special, DVDs and consumer-products partnership.

Comedy Central signed a multi-platform deal with Dunham in March.

Olivia Newton-John’s troubled daughter Chloe Lattanzi collapsed in front of a Los Angeles strip club last week after she and a girlfriend were turned away from the sleazy venue for being too drunk.

A dishevelled Chloe, 23, fell to the ground and needed assistance to stand up after she and her friend were refused entry to the gaudy strip club in West Hollywood.

The shock collapse again raises fears about the health of the aspiring pop star, who appeared to have finally won her long battle with eating disorder anorexia nervosa.

Le Morte d'Magneto
Young Magnus, we hardly knew ye.

by Scott Collura

December 22, 2009 - Yeah, so that young Magneto movie that David Goyer was supposedly working on? It's dead. Not that this news comes as any great surprise to anyone who has even sorta been following the development of Fox's X-Men franchise lately.

Aside from the complete and utter lack of forward momentum on the project in recent months, word came last week that Bryan Singer was returning to the franchise he started to direct X-Men: First Class, an origin/prequel tale about Marvel's band of merry mutants. The thing is, part of that story is to involve the young Magneto and his relationship with the young Professor Xavier. That seemed to be the nail in the Magneto solo-film coffin, and now Singer has pretty much confirmed as much.

"This story would probably utilize some of the Magneto story because it deals with a young Magneto, so it might supersede that because this would explore that relationship between a young energetic professor and a disenfranchised victim of the Holocaust," the director tells The Hollywood Reporter. "But no, I don't see an exhaustion [of the franchise]. The X-Men universe is boundless. These are great characters. And as young characters, they are quite different than the characters we have seen in the contemporary movies."

Singer also says that in all likelihood his other project, Jack the Giant Killer, will go into production before First Class.

It's our final iTunes Chart Watch for 2009, and it ends with Ke$ha and Owl City at the top of the singles and albums charts, respectively.

I angered Owl City fans earlier this year and I don't feel a bit bad about it. What I do feel bad about is taunting my niece when I found out she got the CD for Christmas. I shouldn't have teased her but I feel like I've failed her. She likes that song. What kind of uncle am I where I can allow something like that to happen? I fear for the younger generation. It's a good thing 2009 is coming to a close. For the first time in a few years I'm actually considering writing some New Year's Resolutions and tracking my progress. This might be an area I address. I need to save as many of the younger generation as possible, but I'm only one man!

The iTunes charts usually seem to trend a little younger and it's no surprise that would be the case looking at some of these singles and albums. Unless I miss my guess, a lot of these were purchased with gift cards given as Christmas presents. I can't do anything about parental supervision, but these charts would look different if I could.

Taylor Momsen says she’s sick of people reminding her that she’s only 16!

The Gossip Girl actress and rocker told Seventeen magazine, “I think people don’t really take me seriously because I’m 16. And they think most 16-year-olds don’t know what they want to do. But I actually really do, because I’ve been thinking about it since I was [two-years-old].”

And just like most teenagers, Taylor admits, “I am angsty. I’ll be angsty until I’m 80 years old. I think that keeps things fresh. But I always think angst is such a derogatory word toward teenagers. It just means you’re figuring s*** out, and I don’t know why that’s a negative thing.”

As the lead singer of her band The Pretty Wreckless, Taylor admits, “I love working. I’m a workaholic, and no one believes it. I’m in the recording studio until three in the morning.”

Taylor, we’ve all been there! Have you ever worked hard to live your dream, only to have people tell you that you’re too young to be taken seriously? —Corynne Steindler

Following your passion is the key to becoming a sexy geek, according to Marina Orlova. She should know: The nerdy wordsmith has built an online empire with her Hot for Words videos that make philology more fun than a trip to the library.

“The ultimate thing that makes a geek sexy is that fact that the geek is really good at something,” Orlova told Wired.com in an e-mail interview. “It’s an undying passion for something [that's] usually perceived to be a waste of time.” When computer nerds became billionaires in the ’90s, everything changed, Orlova said. “Voila, geeks are now sexy!”

Orlova (pictured), a consistent force in Wired.com’s annual Sexy Geeks competition, placed first in 2007 and second in 2008. With her YouTube videos racking up 350,000 views a day, a new Hot for Words book in stores and a TV show in development, Orlova is a poster geek for turning obsession into a money machine.

She has one geeky goal left: “I’m still trying to figure out how to turn World of Warcraft into a successful career,” she said.
